Dr. Karyne E. Messina, FABP, is a psychologist and Supervising and Training Analyst at the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis and is on the medical staff of Johns Hopkins Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. She maintains a full-time private practice in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She was previously the Director of the Meyer Treatment Center at the Washington School of Psychiatry and the Director of Continuing Education for Women at George Washington University.
Dr. Messina’s exploration of an important dynamic that exits between men and women in corporate America and government today helps to illuminate one reason why our country is so divided. While women have made progress, they also are forced to take four steps backwards to every step they take forward. From the women in Rwanda who were victims of rape used as a weapon of war to the girls that are snatched from our streets every day, women continue to be victims of misogyny in our patriarchal society. This long-standing and often unspoken prejudice against women permeates all aspects of our society.
Dr. Messina’s contribution could make a difference if we can stop and listen to what others are saying without forcing our own beliefs on them.
Dr. Messina is also an expert contributor to Your Tango, an online magazine that is dedicated to helping women understand and improve their relationships.
Dr. Messina is a glass-blower in her spare time. See her work at www.karynemessina.com. She also enjoys boating, fishing and playing with her dogs, Jax, Lexi and Wrigley.
